Some weddings feel like a perfect balance of intimacy and elegance, and this Teignmouth celebration was exactly that. With just 40 close family and friends gathered, the day was warm, bright, and breezy, literally. The gusty winds gave us all a laugh now and then, but they also added a little drama and movement to the photos, which I loved.
This was one of my 5-hour wedding packages, which worked perfectly for capturing the key parts of the day across two venues. The ceremony began at Bitton House, a beautiful historic building with lovely grounds. The couple chose this spot for their confetti and formal photos, and although there is a slight view of the sea, the more prominent background is the thick blue metal buildings nearby. Rather than let that distract, I opted for shallow depth of field and extra bokeh to soften the background, keeping all eyes on the people who mattered most.
The midday sun can be unforgiving, so I worked carefully with shade where possible, and brought out my Godox AD600 Pro strobe for the formals. This light is what gives my work that signature “pop” – bright, crisp images where the couple and their guests really stand out. It’s a style I’ve honed over the years, and I still love the look every single time.
After the formalities at Bitton House, we moved on to the Cliffden Hotel, where the ceremony took place in their Garden House . It was a charming space, surrounded by gardens and kissed by the summer sunshine. I captured natural bride and groom portraits here before my coverage wrapped up.
I’d not worked at either of these venues before, but being able to walk into a space and immediately know how I want to light it is a skill I’m grateful to have mastered. It means I can focus on the couple, their moments, and their story, and leave them with timeless photos they’ll treasure.
