I had a call for a portrait session for a company in Exeter, Devon. This was a quick turnaround shoot with an hour on location and the retouched photos ready the same day.

All they needed were some portraits of the managing Director for their website. We finished earlier than planned so I utilised the time to take some staff portrait shots.

I always take some shots with plenty of headroom in case any text may need to be placed above the person. I also use lighting to separate out the person from the background more than they otherwise would have been.

It usually takes around 15 minutes to set up the lighting and to take a few test shots before it’s all ready. This MD wanted a couple of outfit changes and for photos to be taken in different parts of the building. The lighting set-up was changing each time but I was working efficiently so downtime between each location was minimal.

The MD didn’t want a corporate feeling image. He wanted a natural, clean photo. He also wanted it formal, but not too formal. I elected to bring the lighting outside and we did half the shoot outside, then half the shoot inside.
