Mandy and John celebrated their renewal of vows at the beautiful Cockington Church in Torquay. It was one of those perfect September days; warm, sunny, and full of smiles.
I arrived nice and early, as I always do, and was very glad to see that RingGo had finally been set up for the parking. No more carrying loose change just for this one car park! It’s the little things that make a difference.
There were around 40 guests in total, and the day had a relaxed, happy feel from the start. Reg and Sue Kray provided the two pristine white Range Rovers for the couple, which looked fantastic parked outside the church in the sunshine.
Because I’m always early, I had plenty of time to capture guests arriving, along with some lovely candid shots of the couple before the ceremony. I even ended up helping one of the guests with parking. Yes, providing change is apparently still part of the job sometimes!
The ceremony itself was beautiful and full of warmth. Because it was a renewal of vows, there were none of the usual restrictions that so many churches now place on photographers. I could move freely, capture every angle, and even use flash to balance out the tricky lighting and white balance issues. What a treat!
Afterwards, we moved straight into group photos and a few formal family shots outside. The midday sun was shining and very bright, but the couple were relaxed, and everyone was full of joy, exactly how a vow renewal should be. I also took some lovely couple portraits around the church grounds before everyone headed off to the reception.
It might have only been a two-hour coverage, but it was a lovely, heartfelt event, and I was really happy to have been part of it. Sometimes the smaller, simpler days are the most enjoyable, and this one was a real pleasure to photograph from start to finish.
