A funny thing happened on Twitter the other week…

Every now and then a follower makes me smile. This was a recent run-in with one such person…

So I post in a couple of Twitter chats. In one (#TorbayHour) I am very active and the other (#DevonHour) I’m on when I’m at home. I usually have a tweet that I use for both to promote myself. It is currently my pinned tweet you can view here. This tweet sometimes goes out on a Monday and Wednesday evening when I run them.

So I get this pop up in Twitter…

Tweet 1.

Oh, I’ve upset someone because of that tweet. I go back through the last few days tweets and tweet back…

Tweet2

I then spotted the hash tag #UrDoingItWrong in their tweet – Hmmmm, I disagreed with that so I replied again with my own stats and hashtag…

tweet3

I added a smiley and the hashtag #DoingSomethingRight because it was a light-hearted rebuttal of their hashtag. My account is constantly growing as are the re-tweets, comments and replies. I’m very happy with how my account is growing and how much website traffic it is generating.

Some times goes by and then this pops up in my notifications…

Tweet 4

Oh wow! This is one seriously fed up person who is now calling 8,000+ followers brain dead and having the memory of a goldfish. This person must really know their stuff and must be a social media guru to be able to tell me I’m wrong, my followers are wrong and I should listen to their incredible wisdom.

At this point I had to see how a successful social media account is run. I… and all my followers need to learn from a true master of social media. I look at their profile…

Tweet 6.

I look at their account… I look back at my account… I look again at theirs. My face at that moment resembled this:

funny.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I did genuinely re-evaluate my strategy. If I had a follower count as low as theirs I think I’d be looking at other tweeters to see how well they do and what I could learn from them. I don’t think I would ever have to gaul to tell someone with a high follower count that they are doing it wrong if my own account was so dire.

I went through their tweets and some of the other tweets also came across with the same tone and rudeness. I’m not that kind of person so I simply left it there and I didn’t bother getting any further involved with them.

They really did make me smile though hehehe.
