Wedding photography at the Palace Hotel, Paignton, Devon.

The Palace Hotel is a lovely venue for a wedding and I look forward to going there again. Here is how the day went…

The Palace Hotel is situated just across the road from Paignton Green and the seafront. Some Victorian buildings can show their age but not here. Everything is clean, tidy and so very welcoming.

I was paid for a half-day to capture the pre-ceremony, the wedding ceremony, the candids/formals after plus the speeches after the meal. I was asked for mostly candid wedding photos, as well as some formals.

Plenty of parking meant I was able to park up easily and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They confirmed the routes through the building as well as going through what they would allow me to do. The staff were some of the best I’ve come across so top marks!

Here’s a small selection from the afternoon…

The guests were greeted with drinks and there were smiles all afternoon.

The ceremony room is elegant, clean and with a colour scheme. It’s one of the nicer indoor venues in the bay. Once the ceremony was over the outdoor area was reserved for the guests and they were served drinks outside while the ceremony room was converted to the reception room.

I must admit, the dark blue carpet did worry me when I was looking at other photos from there. I had already planned to frame the photos with as little carpet as possible. It turns out the decor of the room balances out the carpet better than I thought it would do. I ended up taking a mixture of both so the couple can decide for themselves.

Wedding camera equipment used

For those interested, this is the wedding photography equipment I used for the day. This is one of my first weddings where I did away with my zoom lenses. My arms sure did thank me 😀
