Wedding Photographer at the TLH Carlton Hotel in Torquay, Devon.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been a photographer at the Carton Hotel, but it was my first as a Wedding Photographer here. Let’s see how I got on…

I photographed a Gala night here back in January so I already knew the layout, the rooms and any lighting issues I may have had. It’s always nice when you’re familiar with a venue!

This wedding came about from the Lee Brewer shenanigans. Their wedding was only two weeks away when they contacted me. It was a bit of a mad dash to get all the details etc but the day went really well.

I was needed for Bridal Prep but they preferred me to switch between them, the detail shots and guests arriving. There are some instances where the Bridal prep goes this way. I’m always prepared for this and can photograph whatever is needed. The Dad’s first-look was emotional and I got also some bridal party poses just before the ceremony started.

Let’s take a look at the day…

As you can see by the photos taken later on in the day, this was an 80’s themed wedding. Having grown up with 80’s music it was such a joy to have so much music on that I absolutely loved.

The Carlton hotel is huge and it has multiple rooms for the ceremony and reception. By having two rooms, there was no swapping out the room between ceremony and reception. This made the day more fluid.

The biggest problem with the hotel is that it has no gardens so there is nowhere for the formals and group shots. The solution was to have the big group shot inside the reception room, and the formals in the gardens of an adjacent hotel, which is also owned by the TLH group. If group shots and family shots are important to you, please keep this in mind. You may have to have the photos all done inside the reception room.

Wedding Photography Talk

This is a pretty simple day but because I had to contend with a midday summer’s sun for the formals, I had to use lighting on some shots to either get the backdrop or balance. I also hunted shade where I could when doing the Bride and Groom shots.
